Truth – The most precious commodity

History shows that many great leaders, philosophers and Saints have had Truth as their core value. They never let this slip away from their character no matter what the situations were. Once the disciples of Shri Shankaracharya (Greatest Hindu Saint) asked him to summarise the entire knowledge of all the Vedas and Puranas (Sacred texts of Hindu Religion) in one line and Shri Shankaracharya said “Satyam Vada.. Dharmam Chara” (Always Speak the Truth and Follow your Dharma).

But speaking truth, doing what is right and not what is easy seems to be very difficult nowadays. Be it house, market, office or even to self, acknowledging what is right has become challenging. People are happy to believe their own lies and are not ready to accept the truth which is ultimately the only way forward.

It is very famously said that ” It takes two to speak the truth, one who speaks and another who would listen”. Today, if someone stands against commonly accepted lies, becomes negative. The words ‘trending’,’publicity’ and ‘show off ‘ have replaced ‘Honest’,’Humble’ and ‘Courageous’.

Every parent want their chid to be courageous and truthful, every corporate wants their employees to have unyielding integrity and every nation wants to have a fair & non-corrupt system. But are we encouraging these qualities ourselves first?

For a betterment of this entire system, let’s not focus on your truth or my truth but let’s just encourage what is The Truth. People at influential positions at all levels can drive the culture of being honest and courageous.

In a world where everybody is trying to please someone and are ready to deploy any means to get into favourable books of the other person, being truthful and courageous is the most challenging task. Following are the few things which might help this rare breed to thrive and survive this difficult times:

* Don’t expect the other person to understand and support your views no matter how much they are true. It’s very difficult to wake someone who is pretending to sleep. Start only if you can walk alone

* Always be data ready incase you have to support your views. If you stand against something, be all in or all out. Accept if you are proven wrong as it is another opportunity to improve ourself

* Channelise your views and energy towards helping others. You may become the inspiration to millions of those who may not fight for what is right

* Be truthful to your core values and never compromise on them

* Always remember that supporting the weak not always mean opposing the stronger

May the truth prevail.

  1. Being true has become a real challenge in the real terms of life. Pleasing bosses has become a trend.. People who stay away from these showoffs and nodding yes to the bossess.. Remain silent and lag behind somewhere in the group to wait and watch ahead
